Network Engineering & Support
Firewall
A firewall protects your network from the unauthorized public access. When set up properly, it will permit selective access and services from the public, and filter out content and viruses.
Firewalls can be as simple and small as an appliance or a full stand alone computer. The ideal configuration will depend on your business needs but can generally be run on an older surplus computer.
Server
Services and servers are used interchangeably and sometimes it can be confusing. It is quite common to have more than one service on a server. Web, mail and sftp are three services that are frequently together. Often under utilized servers can be consolidated through virtualization. This results in lower power and hardware costs and easier and quicker migration to newer hardware while accommodating mulitple operating systems.
Network Infrastructure
This is fairly simple to do but is often neglected. Requirements change, modifications and additions go undocumented, and network performance and reliability can be compromised. Both the schematic and physical layout of the network need to be current. Patch cables and wiring harnesses should be used to minimize wire movement and to facilitate quick changes.
Remote Access
Whether you have a couple of people that work from home, a division of road warriors or a satellite office, Open Nexus can help design and implement a system that will meet your needs from simple sharing of a file to application access to full scale collaboration. A properly designed system will provide the right level of access while maintaining the appropriate level of security.
Security
Security should be common sense and need not be expensive. Making sure there are current operating systems, a functioning firewall, anti-virus, anti-spy, and spam filters are very important. One should also use VPN, strong passwords, encryption and tunneling access while deactivating unused ports. The approach to security should be equal as doubling the watch on the front door while leaving the rear unguarded is not effective. Good security results from good practices and does not have to be expensive but setup is crucial to your success.
Internet Services
The Internet is a wonderful invention, appearing to be a simple attractive front end while masking a complex technical back end. As consumers of the Internet, we all know what that experience should be like, but sometimes when we provision those services ourselves things don't work smoothly. OpenNexus can help resolve Internet issues whether it be DNS resolution or a simple "I can't surf".
Custom Applications
Applications generally do not satisfy our every need or are designed to compliment the way we work. Custom development costs more but can be made affordable. Open source applications can be modified and rapid development tools can be used to enable quick proof of concept and implement a custom fit. Giving your core business the required attention could be the strategic advantage that sets you apart.
Linux / FOSS
Linux and Free Open Source Software can frequently be a viable alternative at a lower cost of ownership. OpenNexus is committed to delivering the best solution to satisfy your requirements and will suggest non-commercial alternatives.
We are comfortable in a mixed environment as it delivers maximum value, useability and reliability while minimizing costs. Flexibility comes not from the tools that we choose but from the standards that we embrace.
